Might be changing my stance on the whole “groom’s cake” debate. ‘Cause come on, this is awesome.

RAILROAD REVIVAL TOUR
Okay, so a friend was telling me about this thing the other day. She might go work for the promoters, which means that yes — she’d get to ride with the bands! I’m pretty jealous of the whole situation and I told her, if there’s anything cooler than being a groupie on a bus, it’s being a groupie on a train. Early bird tickets go on sale in an hour here. Get ‘em while they’re hot!

SOME LOGOS

I’ve been doing a lot of logo marks lately — just by coincidence, I guess. Thought I would share a few here. The “Ice Cream Social” mark was done as part of a story featured on CookingChannel.com. This was my first attempt at the very of-the-moment chalkboard art trend. I really liked the way the logo turned out on the vellum gift bags the best, though. The next one was done for camillestyles, to promote “picnic week” on the blog, which I have explained to people is a lot like “shark week” on Discovery, but less dangerous. The “Electric Company” mark was created for Jason Hicks — he wanted a logo variation based on some hand lettered stuff he found from the 60s. The last one was designed with my good friend, Maria D’Amato, for the recently renovated Austin Music Hall. I’m more of an art director than traditional designer, so logos are a little outside of my comfort zone. The best logo designer I know gave me some good advice: “Make it memorable.” I think I’m getting better, but I’ve got a long way to go if I want to be as good as him.

HELLO.
I finally bought my new 50mm lens today! I took this picture of my friend’s new puppy, El Guapo. If only I was so photogenic!

I was excited to be a part of Camille Style’s team that put this together — the first of a series called “party in 5” created for the Cooking Channel. My dining room table, handwriting, arm, and a few of my ideas ended up being featured! Most proud of: the idea to use a grouping of shot glasses at each table setting for beer tasting. We have several more posts in this series in the works right now, so stay tuned. And Happy Friday!

I’m just now really getting into Lucinda. I can’t get this song out of my mind, it’s damned near perfect. Give it a listen, sit back and bask in the glow of raw talent. God, she’s good.

At some point, I’m going to have to quit working two jobs at once so I can do more stuff like this. What better way to escape the Texas summer heat than in a cool, dark theater? Sweet refuge…
