Lucy’s Fried Chicken opens this Friday at 11 am! Just look for the seriously awesome handpainted sign over at 2218 College Avenue. The newest venture from Olivia chef, James Holmes, Lucy’s will feature buckets-o-chicken, grilled oysters, a venison sausage plate and sides like cornbread and fried deviled eggs. South Austinites may recognize the location as the old Nuevo Onda (whose website claims that they may take up residence in a new location soon, so don’t get all angry, folks.) The building has been prettied up by architect Michael Hsu (the guy behind La Condesa and Uchiko) so expect COOL.
Slick interiors aside, I’m mostly excited about eating some fried chicken that’s worth a dang. I’ve always wished we had something in Austin that rivaled Bubba’s in Dallas. Right now, I still think the best chicken in town is at the Popeye’s on S. First.
We’ll see what happens Friday.
