HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY
Here’s a little love story for you: Have you seen the graffiti on the side of Jo’s Coffee on South Congress? I remember being taken aback by the words “I love you so much” scrawled in red spray paint when they first appeared in 2010. Turns out this little act of vandalism was actually committed by the owner’s girlfriend. Liz Lambert, the owner of the Hotel San Jose and Jo’s (and many other supercool properties around the state) was having a really bad day when her lover, local musician Amy Cook, surprised her with this brazen and public love note.
A few days later, the nearby restaurant Snack Bar responded with the words “I love you more” on their changeable sign. Since then, the wall at Jo’s has become a place where lovers flock to take their engagement photos and Christmas card photos. In 2011 the graffiti was vandalized and the wall was repainted solid green. After a noticeable public outcry on facebook and other social media sites, Liz and Amy repainted the message on the wall.
Take a cue from Amy and show somebody you love them today. Even if it involves vandalism.
